About Cologne

Cologne is a historic city on the Rhine River, northwest of Bonn and southeast of Düsseldorf.

Its medieval center was once protected by a 4-mile wall completed around 1200, enclosing communities for up to 40,000 residents.

Today, Cologne is divided into 85 districts across nine boroughs, with most neighborhoods on the Rhine’s left bank. The city experiences a temperate, humid climate with mild summers, making late spring through early autumn a practical time to visit.
